Armenia appeared in ‘blockade’
Armenia has already felt the impact of an indefinite strike staged by Poti port workers, who demand higher wages and decent working conditions.
The transportation of cargo to Armenia has been suspended for an indefinite period of time as a result of the Georgian strike. At best, the goods will be sent to Armenia from the port of Batumi.
"This implies that overall import prices will go up per unit. Batumi is far from Poti, the port charges more for services," said Arsen Ghazaryan, Chairman of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia.
In the given situation, Mr Ghazaryan suggests that Armenian businessmen temporarily suspend the export of Armenian products.
The same picture is observed in the case of Turkey, with Georgia creating obstacles for the transportation of Turkish goods.
Hundreds of workers, including mechanics, ship staff and terminal personnel, gathered outside the gateway of Georgia's Poti port in the morning of Nov. 1, demanding better working conditions. They will not stop the protest until the management meets their demands.
