Armenia receives 7 awards at regional IT conferenc
Armenia's high-tech companies received seven awards at the fifth annual regional IT conference (GITI) held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on November 14-17, deputy director of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises, Vahan Hovsepyan, told a news conference on Nov. 26.
About 50 representatives from 21 companies represented Armenia at the GITI conference. Mr Hovsepyan says during the conference Armenia presented several business projects.
"We had only one participant from the state sector - the State Committee of Real Estate Cadastre - that took two awards in two different nominations - Successful IT Innovation and Best Information Resource," he said adding that the Armenian side reached cooperation arrangements with Latvia and Ukraine.
Vahan Hovsepyan highlights Armenia's participation at the conference as it gave an opportunity to represent the country at the international level. "Armenia should be able to create in the world the image of a technological country. Having a powerful IT sector, we are not recognized globally," he stressed.
Since its launch in 2008, the GITI conference aims to promote networking and partnership between IT companies, associations, and government representatives from Central and Eastern Europe, Baltic states, the Caucasus and Central Asia to foster competitiveness and innovation. The conference is organized by the Georgian ICT Business Council and the LEPL Data Exchange Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Justice.
