Levon Shirinyan does not want another Republican to assume office of Prime Minister.

“I expected Tigran Sargsyan to resign on April 20 or later,” said Stepan Margaryan.

Most of his predecessors were relieved of their duties by a presidential decree.

“He [Tigran Sargsyan] resigned because he could no longer resist their pressure,” said one of our respondents.

Political analyst Andrias Ghukasyan says the prime minister’s resignation was accepted in order to suspend the signing of an agreement ratifying Armenia's accession to the Customs Union.

Stepan Margaryan, a lawmaker of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), excludes that the Armenian government might be headed by a person affiliated with his party.

Talking to Yerkir.am, Viktor Soghomonyan said the reports do not correspond to reality and Kocharyan does not want to head the government.

"I do not read the tea leaves and I cannot say what will happen. I'm not afraid to make predictions but I do not want to," said the Republican lawmaker.

The campaign in defense of Shahen Petrosyan, the son of the jailed opposition activist Shant Harutyunyan, continued in the vicinity of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

“Whether I shall remain in the new government or not depends on what kind of a government is formed and, of course, whether I am offered to stay in government,” Vahram Avanesyan said.

He says the resignation has proved that ‘the formation of the Cabinet depends on the decisions of the political majority and the country’s leader.’

“We shall not answer any question referring to the premier’s resignation,” she said.

“One resignation is not enough as it will not solve the problems in the country,” he said.

Analysts say it is typical of Russia to disseminate similar footages and cause panic.

Under the Armenian Constitution, a new prime minister has to be appointed within ten days after the government’s resignation. A new government has to be appointed within 20 days after the appointment of the prime minister.

"Now we are heading for the second round where we shall demand Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation through nationwide rallies,” he said.

“I shall not give any names, but I do not predict major changes as the shuffle is aimed at retaining the power,” said the political analyst.

“Tigran Sargsyan had his worst career ending," said Mr Safaryan.

“Early presidential and parliamentary elections are necessary to be held in the country to change the situation and solve all problems,” said Mr Khurshudyan.

“First we must understand the CC decision and only then find a connection,” said the BHK lawmaker

Serzh Sargsyan has accepted the resignation letter.
