The Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) decided to partially meet the request of the Electric networks of Armenia (ENA) Company and increase the electricity rates by 6,93 drams. The PSRC today discussed the company’s bid, which asked for an increase by 17 drams. ENA Executive Director Yevgeny Bibin did not attend the PSCR meeting. In a message sent to PSRC Chairman Robert Nazaryan, Bibin said ‘his participation in the meeting was impossible for a number of reasons.’ However, Zhoghovurd daily reports that Bibin wrote a ‘confidential’ letter to the PSRC chairman, saying that the rise in electricity tariff by 6.93 AMD will be insufficient for the company to work efficiently. Speaking at the Wednesday meeting of the PSRC, Mr Nazaryan said, “In his letter, Mr Bibin said if the electricity tariff is increased by 6.93 AMD, it will be impossible for the Company [ENA] to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to Armenia. The letter also says if the electricity tariff is increased by 6.93 AMD, the Company will turns to the PSRC for discussing the possibility of licensed activities. Mr Bibin said the electricity tariff offered by the ENA is economically justified and hence urged the PSRC to understand the significance of the decision and its consequences. The new tariffs come into effect starting August 1.
