Karabakh war veteran Hovsep Terteryan has entered his tenth day of hunger strike at the Vardashen penitentiary institution. He started the strike after the administrative commission of the prison rejected his request for conditional early release for a fourth time. “They [the commission] wrote that there is a positive change in the behavior of the convict and he has been awarded twice, but psychological counseling should be continued, while, in fact, no psychologist has attended him in the past four years,” Terteryan relatives told A1+. Should the administrative commission give a positive response, the issue would be then discussed by an independent commission. The relatives say the inmate will not stop the hunger strike unless he receives a positive reply. In 2009, Hovsep Terteryan, a holder of the First degree Battle Cross order, was sentenced to 9 years in prison. He will be released in 11 months.
