27 years on: Traces of the 1988 earthquake still with us
A devastating earthquake hit Armenia on December 7, 1988, at 11.41am Yerevan time. The severe earthquake destroyed 11 towns, 58 villages, killed about 25 thousand people and left more than half a million people homeless. Twenty-seven years after the disaster the consequences of the earthquake are still visible and the phrase “disaster area” is still used in our vocabularies.
