S. Mayrapetyan’s company evicts residents from their flats (video)
Andranik Mkrtchyan is obliged to leave his flat at Lalayants 37 in a two-month period. He has lived there for 66 years. The Court of Cassation has made such a decision. “But we categorically won’t leave the flat. If we are forced to leave, we will use self-defense and take radical measures,” Andranik Mkrtchyan told “A1+”. For already 8 years the residents of Teryan 23, 25 and Lalayants 37 blocks have been fighting for not being evicted from their flats. The territory has been recognized an eminent domain and “Local developers” company has been recognized an acquirer. The company is owned by Samvel Mayrapetyan. Those, who are fighting for their rights, announce that until today it isn’t known what will be built instead of the blocks, there is no project. “It is just a tendency to displace the people and gain profit at the expense of their property,” says resident of Teryan 23 block Vardan Geravetyan. He notes that still two months ago the residents turned to Serzh Sargsyan for solution of the problem. “He said that they would deal with that issue and they have been engaged in it for two months. The authorities have made certain promises on compensation,” adds member of “Our city” initiative. The residents have demanded from USD 750 to USD 850 compensation for 1 sq/m, which isn’t equivalent to market prices. But the residents are mainly fighting so that the building isn’t destroyed, as once prominent figures of science and culture lived there. “There is similar building on Tumanyan Street, where Sashik Sargsyan lives. His building is three-storey and has been again veneered. The matter is to whom the building belongs to. I would like our old cultural monuments to be maintained. Let them belong to such people, let them belong to Mayrapetyan, let them be fed up with those buildings,” notes Vardan Geravetyan. By the way, “Local developers” company has applied to the court with the claim of eviction. According to it, in two days the Court of Appeal will issue a judgment in the issue of evicting Vardan Geravetyan.
