If Azerbaijan avoids answering, it will mean the country accepts allegations of torture
Azerbaijan was asked specific questions about the torture of Mamikon Khojoyan, a 77-year-old Armenian citizen who inadvertently crossed the border into Azerbaijan in 2014, Kristina Gevorgyan, a lawyer of the Foundation Against the Violation of Law, told A1+.
The the Foundation Against the Violation of Law earlier reported that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) accepted on November 10, 2015 the case of Mamikon Khojoyan.
The lawyer stressed that such cases usually last long but the ECtHR accepted the case very quickly. The Azerbaijani government is due to respond to the Court’s questions by March 8, 2016. Can the country evade questions?
“It is impossible because it does not stem from the interests of that country. If they avoid answering, it will mean they admit to the torture [of Mamikon Khojoyan],” Kristina Gevorgyan said.
If Azerbaijan presents objections, the NGO, which represents the Armenian side, will develop a program of further actions.
