Priest: Lent is pilgrimage, not diet (video)
"Lent is a special time of repentance, prayer, fasting and preparation. Lent means giving up personal sins and vices," Priest Ter Karapet Karapetyan said on March 7. “Lent is sometimes seen as a season of diet, but this is a wrong perception. Lent is a pilgrimage to God. We need to read the Bible to understand its true meaning and understand what God wants from us. Lent is not a way to lose weight, it is a spiritual culture which strengthens our will power and teaches us to be moderate [in our desires],” he said. During the period of Lent, people should pray and engage in good work, they should try to be temperate. “People should get rid of all bad habits and addictions thereby getting closer to God. The Bible says: “Take one step toward God and He takes two steps toward you,” the priest added.
