A court in Yerevan is expected to deliver a verdict in the case of civil activist Vardges Gaspari on March 29. Nelly Baghdasaryan, a judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Shengavit district, today allowed lawyer Tigran Yegoryan to make a defense speech. In his speech, the lawyer asked why Nelly Baghdasaryan did not follow the example of a judge of the administrative court who turned to the Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly insulting him. Just at that moment, the judge did not allow Yegoryan to continue his speech. Then the judge told Gaspari that he could exercise his right to freedom of expression but the civil activist refused to speak until his lawyer finished his speech. Deciding that Gaspari did not want to get his last say, Nelly Baghdasaryan retired to the consultation room. Gaspari is charged with insulting two police officers.
