The working day of Hamlet Grigoryan begins and ends in the basin in rubber shoes and waterproof clothing; he has repaired fountains for 16 years. “It is our everyday work. We try to perfectly clean the pipes so that they operate normally,” Hamlet Grigoryan told “A1+”. He is mainly responsible for the fountains of Republic Square and the park next to the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh. By the way, on the day of opening the statue he was warned to do his work diligently. He has his personal opinion on the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh, “I would like it to be consistent with his character, the personage as a statue, so that the statue can express his inner world. The ideals, aspirations of the Armenian people should be expressed in his face.” Hamlet Grigoryan confesses that he likes his work, he can see art in it, though, formerly he was engaged in other jobs- machinist, musician, photographer, “I was engaged in many good jobs, now I have to do it as I must keep my family. It is the fate of our whole nation; we must work so that we can survive. It is struggle for existence, it is not a method to become rich.” Isn’t it difficult to be always in water? He states he doesn’t suffer from rheumatism. Today there are more than 30 fountains in Yerevan, and the first fountain was built in 1938 behind the statue of Shahumyan.
