Dashnaktsutyun to discuss Shirak governor's possible resignation (video)
“The role of a governor is not to ensure votes. We did not appoint a governor to bring us votes,” Head of the parliamentary faction of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) said on Friday speaking about the local elections in Shirak marz, where Dashnaktsutyun was unable to overcome the 5-percent threshold. According to reports the Dashank governor of the marz will be dismissed for his failure to garner the necessary votes in the October 2 elections. “The governor will not tender his resignation without discussing the issue with the party,” Armen Rustamyan said today. “No one can say that the governor of Shirak used his resources in the elections. Had he done it, we would have had a different picture. Defeat is normal in politics,” he added. Armen Rustamyan says the local elections were ‘a test’ for them before the 2017 parliamentary elections. “We do not think we had a failure, because we had many candidates elected as community heads.”
