A group of people today welcomed the four-member family of Galustyans at Zvartnots airport who arrived in Yerevan in a Dubai-Yerevan flight. The family living under near-siege conditions and a constant bombardment of barrel bombs for six years was forced to leave Aleppo after the recent explosions after which their house was leveled to the ground. “A rocket fell onto our house and ruined it. We pulled my husbands and children out from under the debris. They were all covered in blood. People came to help us and took them to hospital. The second one was even more destructive and leveled the building to the ground,” tells Gohar Galustyan. The family lived in Nor Gyugh district of Aleppo. After losing their house, they lived in the house of Gohar’s mother for a week and then headed for Beirut. “We needed great sums to go from Aleppo to Lebanon. Armenians in Syria want to leave the country, but they do not have money,” she adds. The family moved to Armenia with the help of Halep organization, which covered all travel expenses. About 250 Syrian Armenians have moved to Armenia since 2015. “Many want to leave Syria, but they do not have finances or, perhaps, they do not want to leave Syria,” says Shushan Karapetyan, a representative of the organization. She says after coming to Armenia, Syrian Armenians are faced with new problems. “They cannot find jobs, they cannot adapt to new conditions,” she adds. Upon their arrival, the Galustyans went to the Yarmolyans who agreed to accommodate them in their apartment for six months.
