Directors boast, then you come and cannot understand what you watch: Sturua (video)
“What can do the people, who want to struggle against evil, dictatorship and do not lose their ideals, their personality; it is an eternal problem. Hamlet himself faced such a problem,” says Robert Sturua, honorary guest of the Shakespeare International 11th Theatrical festival and world famous director. Today Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli State Academic Theatre performed Sturua’s “Julius Ceasar” at the opening of the festival. “Directors boast, then you come and cannot understand what you watch. I hope that my performance isn’t that case. What’s more, it can be considered classic compared with what is performed today at theatres,” jokes Sturua. “To say, I am not a supporter of avant-garde. I recovered from that ‘illness’. But one thing is certain; the performance shouldn’t be boredom.’ 130 participants from 15 countries, dramatic, musical and mono performances. The organizers assure the theatre fans that it will be a week full of Shakespeare passions.
