This week “Kiraki” (Sunday) program touched upon enlargement of communities. Our republic is gradually dividing into groups of communities. Until 2015, Armenia has 915 communities, around 400 of which have population less than 1000, about 200 communities- less than 300, and about 100 communities, which have population less than 100. And need arose to unite the communities. The process of community enlargement has kicked off still in 2008 with the drafting of concept and was approved by the Government. As a result of research and examinations in 2015, 14 pilot projects of enlargement have been already drafted. According to the legislative package of June 17, 2016, 15 groups were formed from 118 communities. It is planned to keep 200-300 communities from the former 915 communities. The official explanation is the following: the enlargement of the communities will ease the isolation of the settlements; human, material and financial recourses, which are being destroyed, will join together. Which are the risks of this process? What will be changed in our lives? “Ankyun +3” of Alaverdi and “Tsayg” of Gyumri TV channels have prepared videos for the program. The program hosted Ashot Giloyan, Head of the Local Self-Government Department of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development and the NA Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction lawmaker Lyova Khachatryan.
