Residents of Kond district dissatisfied with compensation (video)
On November 16, Armenian lawmaker Zaruhi Postanjyan spoke about the problems faced by former residents of Kond district during the government's question-and-answer session in the National Assembly. “Under the guise of prevailing public interest, the district was alienated. The residents were promised new apartments but none of them has received one so far. As a result, about 5 000 residents remained without shelters overhead,” the member of the Heritage party said. “We made inquiries about the matter from the Yerevan Municipality to be able to answer your question,” said Davit Lokyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Development. “We learnt that the government failed in the first stage of the project and is now looking for new resources and tools to continue the program. The property of 70 families has been returned to them. The second building may not be built for them as the dwellers have taken back their money. The other residents who refused to have apartments in a new building will receive AMD 100 million in additional compensation.” Zaruhi Postanjyan stressed that the residents disagree with the amount of compensation as ‘it does not correspond to market prices.’ “Some people were so hopeless that they agreed to take the money,” she stressed.
