Proper attire for operas: Minister says people should not go to an opera in jeans (video)
“Our society needs to change its attitude towards restaurants and all infrastructures which we plan to build in our Opera Theatre,” Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan said on Tuesday. "We need to review our attitude to restaurants. There is no need to associate it with the dishes served there. We want to introduce a new type of culture, a culture that did not exist in our country in the past but is important for our people,” the minister said adding that they want to create such an atmosphere that would attract visitors and make them watch shows and performances. "We must try to earn money through shows and performances.” At the same time, Armen Amiryan advises people to discuss playlists and news at theatres rather than restaurants and other entertainment centres. "Changes are expected at the Opera House. We shall soon have our performances translated for tourists. This year, we shall stage five performances which we have bought from European opera theatres,” he added. Mr Amiryan also spoke about the atmosphere in operas. “We are trying to change the culture so that people will attend operas in proper clothes instead of jeans.” In response to A1+ Company concerning the fate of Areni cave complex [in Vayots Dzor province] which environmentalists fear that might be turned into an entertainment zone, Mr Amiryan said, “The caves are neglected today. We have information that tourists pay money to be able to enter the caves. “After signing the corresponding contracts we shall be able to monitor and provide further excavations in caves.” The minister assured everyone that no one would be allowed to build a cafe or restaurant near the caves.
