Catalonia asks EU support
90% of Catalonia voted for independence at a local referendum on Sunday. The Spanish authorities considered the referendum illegitimate, and by the order of Madrid authorities, the police tried to prevent the demonstration with the use of force.
Our colleague Ruzan Arshakyan, from Barcelona’s central Rambla Avenue, informs that demonstrations are expected today at the University (Universidades) Square. Tomorrow, a massive strike is planned, no transport will be available, many streets are already closed.
According to local news, Catalonia asks for EU support, and the latter, though respecting nations' self-determination, needs to agree with the Spanish authorities.
