This year, 7343 students have entered higher educational institutions, while 3777 students have entered in educational establishments of craftsmanship. According to Artak Aghbalyan, Head of the Department of Primary and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, the number of students interested in craftsmanship has increased considerably compared to recent years. However, he does not think that the mandatory 12-year education has something to do with it. “Many people have understood that the demand of professions in the field of craftsmanship is high, so, they do not want to continue their education in the higher education institutions, and instead, they enter the VET educational institution, get their knowledge and skills, and then, enter the labor market,” Artak Aghbalyan said during the meeting. According to the Minister of Education and Science, there are still authoritative professions such as accounting, audit, marketing, management, banking, insurance. “We go to the path where the professions are adapted to the market requirements, and it's done according to the peculiarities of the development of the provinces. For example, Vayots Dzor is famous for its wine making and its tourism, and Syunik is famous for its mining industry. So, specialists will be trained based on these peculiarities,” Artak Aghbalyan added.
