Government must not guide the media, American journalist Sherry Richard said today at the meeting with her Armenian colleagues.

Richard says she is surprised by the bravery of Armenian journalists, but she is also aware of negative phenomena, such as “ordered” articles written for money. The American journalist, however, didn’t condemn Armenian colleagues for that saying this situation is inevitable over transitional period, as journalists are in need to earn money for living.

”Freedom of speech is a touchstone of democracy and any threat to it should unite journalists in fighting against restrictions”, she said.
