ANOTHER UNPRECEDENTED TRIAL
Support A1+!The first instance court of Nork-Marash district of Yerevan is to deliver a verdict Monday on the six suspects accused in attacking Artashes Beglaryan, who is husband of Constitutional Court Chair Gagik Harutyunyan’s daughter. All the accused, except Marina Ispiryan, plead not guilty at yesterday’s court hearing.
It is worth to be noted, that other five suspects’ apprehension was based on Marina’s testimony. Marina testified she has complained to her boyfriend Robert Martirossyan about harrassment by Beglaryan, who was bitten by Martirossyan brothers after that.
Edgar Kazumyan, Zorayr Melkonyan and Saro Abelyan were taken in custody after Marina confessed they had hijacked a car and had been preparing for assault. Later, however, they refused to put their plan into reality and even threw their weapons into river of Getar, Edgar Kazumyan’s attorney Valter Geghamyan says. He also says Marina Ispiryan is reluctant to plea guilty, as she was kept under pressure.
And what about other defendants, they’ve voluntarily abandoned their idea, that’s why it can’t be considered as a crime committed, says another defendant Saro Abelyan’’s attorney Rafik Safaryan. He says the accused could face 8 to 12 years in jail if found guilty on 3rd count of the Penal Code’s article 88. In his opinion, it would be unprecedented case in judicial record. “One voluntarily rejecting its own idea of committing crime is prosecuted for the crime committed”, he says.
