THE NUMBER OF THE HOMELESS INCREASES

The problem of resettlement of refugees in Armenia is not solved even 15 years later the great stream of them.12.000 families are still homeless. The problem has become more serious as the latter-day owners of the temporary dwellings began evicting the homeless refugees.

Government itself caused the problem. No legal paper was given to the refugees at resettlement. The people, having recently privatized holiday homes, hostels, and other temporary living quarters, using all their key factors leave homeless the people who already know horror for being once evicted.

60 whereas Government has given guarantees against being exiled for resettling refugees and integrating them into the Armenian society.

Gagik Eganyan, head of governmental Directorate for Migration and Refugees, agrees that the situation is unsolvable now. *That is the reality. It is senseless to consider the issue of eviction of refugees at the moral aspect. Legal standards are needed* .

The workers of UNO Superior Executive Office for Refugees, Directorate of Refugees and Migration, International Union of Advocates will be occupied with establishment of the legal field.

One more project, a pressing program for providing refugees with flats will be launched from May 1. All the refugee families and their social conditions will one by one be studied within 3 months.

Before that the foreign specialists advise to solve the problem of eviction and dwelling by the following procedure: either the owner of the temporary dwelling must pay compensation, or to allow alternative premises.
