TIGRAN NAGHDALYAN’S MURDER TRIAL CONTINUES
Support A1+!Tigran Naghdalyan’s murder trial was continued today. Suspect Armen Sargssyan’s attorney, Hovik Arsenyan, who has been temporarily suspended from proceedings at previous session, appeared before the court at today’s hearing.
Hovik Arsenyan submitted to the court his license and pleaded to be allowed to defend his client saying he has the legitimate right to legal activity and adding there is not a word about temporary suspension of a lawyer from legal proceedings in Criminal Proceedings Code.
The court kept insisting on its decision. Arsenyan, for his part, remained defiant asking the court to observe the law.
Finally, Judge Saribek Aramyan ordered guards to take him out of the courtroom and they did.
Armen Sargssyan’s another attorney, Robert Grigoryan, demanded the court to respect his client and allow him to attend hearings, as the court decision prohibiting him from being present at the trial concerns only his presence at examination of particular defendants, but not whole trial.
The judge’s answer was ridiculous. He said he was guided by human sense in making the decision “to avoid disturbing the defendant”.
Ruben Rshtuni, the victim heir’s attorney, joined Grigoryan and invoking Criminal Proceedings Code demanded Sargssyan presence in the courtroom.
Prosecutor Zelim Tadevossyan, who was obviously unhappy about Rshtuni’s step, accused the experienced professional of being unaware of the law prompting the latter’s anger. Ruben Rshtuni announced no confidence in the court and demanded a break to file a proper motion.
However, after the break, the lawyer no more insisted on that. Rshtuni only said he feels bad and asked for another break to discuss the matter with his client and know his opinion.
Hearings to be continued on Thursday.
