“94% OF ARMENIA IS IN THE SEISMIC ZONE”

Armenian Association of Seismology and Physics held a press conference in connection with the 15th anniversary of Spitak earthquake.

AASP Chair Sergey Balasanyan informed that 94% of Armenia is located in the most seismic zone.

”If the earthquake, which stroke in Garni in 1967 is repeated 300000 people will die in Yerevan whereas less than 25000 will die in Spitak since the buildings constructed by Linse’ Fund there correspond to the international standards”, he said answering the question what circumstances the earthquakes like in Spitak may have.

The new buildings in the Northern Avenue fall short of the norms.

Balasanyan told that AASP implements mass programs by Eurasia Fund financing.

It is to state that the earthquake in Spitak may be repeated in 60 years.
