FAMILY VIOLENCE IS STILL EXIST IN ARMENIA

Social

Issues related to violence against women and children were discussed in NGO Center on Wednesday.

Ethnic and Sociological Researches Center director Mihran Galstyan said a large-scale research conducted by the center last year showed that family violence made 7% of all outrages being committed in the country. In his opinion, as a rule, young mothers and fathers inherit such conduct from their parents, who also resorted to beating their children while bringing them up. Such brutal methods of upbringing are often resulting in mild form of depression, insomnia, fear that cannot be cured easily.

In general, young moms treated their children brutally mostly because of material hardship and lack of awareness.

Susanna Aslanyan, the head of “Armenia’s Motherhood Foundation”, said Crisis Center has functioned in the republic since 2002. The center focuses its activity on searching ways for settling family conflicts as well as on accommodating those women fled their homes because of violence they faced.
