On Monday, April 5, unknown persons have acted violently towards a number of media representatives at the mass meeting at the territory of Nairi movie theatre.
The photo cameras of Onik Grigoryan (the photographer of Investigative Journalists’ Association), Anna Israelyan (a reporter of Aravot newspaper), Hayk Gevorgyan (a reporter of Haikakan Zhamanak daily), as well as video cameras of Haylur newscast, Kentron TV company, Hay TV, and National Unity party, were broken. The videotape with the recording of the incident was confiscated from the representative of Shant TV Company.
Everything took place in the presence of law enforcement representatives.
Internews considers such attitude towards the media unacceptable, and evaluates the incident as a pressure on mass media and restriction on the right of the public to be informed.
