Support A1+!”Speech Freedom Support” Fund released a statement regarding the events in Armenia.
There have been publications in the press saying the circles close to the Authorities collect detachments to do violence against the representatives of Opposition and active citizens during meetings, rallies, marches and other public measures.
The recent developments proved the publications to correspond to the reality. Unknown people attacked MP, Opposition figure Viktor Dallaqyan.
At attempt was made to hamper the Opposition meeting in Gyumri, provocation was stirred and Opposition figures were taken in detention.
Attorney Michael Danielyan and Opposition representative Aramayis Barseghyan were beaten.
On April 5 “National Unity” Party meeting was failed. During it rally participants and journalists covering the events were assaulted.
The law-enforcement bodies didn’t take any steps to disclose the crimes or to prevent them. Moreover, they could avert the accidents since they had witnessed the attacks and violence during the rallies.
Besides, people are arrested illegally. Tens of people were arrested for organization of meetings, participation in them and implementation of their constitutional right.
”Speech Freedom Support” Fund condemns any act of violence, especially directed against Constitutional right for free expression and free performing of the professional duties of journalists .
