ARMENIA INTENDING TO DEVELOP
Support A1+!”Armenia intends implementing the goals of Millennium development by 2015”, Gagik Vardanyan, Trade and Economic Development Deputy Minister announced during the round table discussion on “Millennium Development Goals in Armenia”. This date was fixed a deadline in the Millennium Summit in New York in 2000.
The participating states, including Armenia, undertook to fulfill 8 purposes, like eradicating poverty and starvation, reducing infant mortality and preventing AIDS/HIV. According to Gagik Vardanyan, Armenia assumes to perform the goals of Millennium by assistance of international organizations.
Yeji Osiatynski, regional representative of UN Millennium Development Goals partook in the round table discussion. During his May 25-27 visit in Armenia he will meet the representatives of Government, social and international organizations to discuss the goals of Millennium Development.
According to him, it is necessary to raise the level of high education when poverty elimination is spoken about. “When people are educated it is easier for them to find jobs”, he says.
