Kurds residing in Armenia have gone on 3-day-long hunger-strike in “Kurdistan Committee” in Teryan, 32, in Yerevan since morning. “The action was initiated in support of freedom for Abdullah Ojalan, nationwide leader of Kurd people and improvement of prison conditions”, Commune representatives say.
Jenika Ghadir, Vice-Chair of “Kurdistan Committee” expressed discontent with worsening of the conditions for “Apo” /Ojalan/ kept in Turkish prison for 6 years. Ghadir also voiced alarm for the “intolerance” policy conducted towards the Kurds in Turkey.
”Turkey wants to become an EU member but the problem of Kurd people remains unsettled. Language is not protected, Kurds in Turkey are not allowed to speak their native language”, Jenika Ghadir says.
25 Kurds partake in the hunger-strike. According to Ghadir, they have sent letters to the international organizations of Red Cross, foreign Embassies to Armenia, Ombudsman. Ghadir said appealing to Ombudsman bears no relation with the status of protecting the rights of Kurds in Armenia.
