POPE IS AGAINST CONTRACEPTIVES

Social

”AIDS is an epidemic, which reaches huge volumes year by year”, Lars Olof Kallings, UN Secretary General’s Commissioner on AIDS/HIV in Eastern Europe said a press conference. 30 million people in the world have already died of AIDS/HIV, 40 million ones are virus-carriers and it’s just the beginning of the epidemic, Commissioner says.

Under his forecasts, there will be 45 million new virus-carriers registered during 10 coming years. Lars Olof Kallings thinks AIDS combating is the task of not only health care sphere but also other ministries and super departments. There are about 30.000 virus-carrier soldiers in Russia and Defence Ministry as well is occupied with the problem.

Which is the role of ecclesiastical structures in AIDS preventing? By words of Mr. Kallings, ecclesiastical structures must take steps for eliminating discrimination towards virus-carriers.

Lars Olof Kallings informed unfortunately AIDS/HIV is spread widely in Christian countries rather than in Moslem ones. He also said one of the reasons is probably the fact that Pope had announced he was against contraceptives.

Statistics show that HIV mostly prevails among married women than among those not married but enjoying sexual life.
