THE STREET AFTER HAVING SWALLOWED SALT AND SAND

Social

Those people who do not believe that the Yerevan streets are being cleaned are invited by Ashot Sargsyan, the head of the Yerevan municipality Construction, improvement and communal department, to go to the streets of the city at night. If the streets were not cleaned, as he mentioned in the press conference today, they would be impassable now.

«There are no impassable streets in Yerevan», officially announced Ashot Sargsyan.

It turns out that the Yerevan municipality has already used 1270 tons of salt and 4974 tons of sand for cleaning the streets (mostly central ones). According to Mr. Sargsyan, the salt and sand do not harm the asphalt. The asphalt is damaged only on those streets where there are many slots: the snow melts and widens the slots. Ashot Sargsyan also admits that there are shortcomings in their work, mainly in the cleaning of the pavements, when the workers sometimes damage the pavements while cleaning them with metal tools.

Mr. Sargsyan says that after doing the cleaning of the streets properly, the pavements will also be paid attention to.

He also informed that due to the work done for the last two years this year no water pipes have blown and no roofs are out of order. «These works will go on this year», he mentioned optimistically. For example, asphalting works will be 30% more in 2005. 1.5 billion drams have been allotted for this purpose from the budget.
