THEY DEFENDED THE SOVIET HOMELAND

In Soviet times February 23 was the day of Red Army. Today it is celebrated in Russia as the day of the Defender of Homeland. The day of the Armenian Army is January 28.
Today in Victory Park flowers were put on the monument to the Unknown Soldier. Together with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War there were Serge Sargsyan, RA Minister of Defense, Anatoly Dryukov, Russian Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Armenia, other authorities, and Russian border-guards.
According to Serge Sargsyan, the Armenian Army was created on the basis of the Soviet Army, and besides, «we have all grown» in a Soviet country.
