«We intend to work out a plan of regulating the wastes in Yerevan», said Romik Kosemyan, head of the Yerevan Enviromental Protection Administration in the today’s press conference. According to the plan, during the coming 16 years «the gases and dumps of the capital will be reduced by 100 thousand tons».

«A plant will be built which will lessen the greenhouse gases», said Mr. Kosemyan. He has already met the representatives of a Japan company, who must carry out the works. «As far as I know, the construction of the plant is anticipated in 2007», he said, adding that an investment of 9 million dollars will be needed for the construction of the plant.

«Besides the reduction of gases, it will also produce electric power», informed Romik Kosemyan. At the same time the head of the Yerevan Enviromental Protection Administration said that about 50% of atmosphere pollution comes from the transportation. According to Kosemyan, in order to combat the pollution, the municipality must take care of the fuel quality and the planting of trees.
