NUMBER OF BEDS EXCEEDS NUMBER OF PATIENTS
Support A1+!Today is the International Day of Struggle against Tuberculosis. On this occasion representatives of the Red Cross and mass media visited the hospital for prisoners, where 44 sick with tuberculosis are undergoing treatment.
Most of the sick men are above 40 and are kept in isolation. A check-up is conducted in all the jails twice a year and the sick convicts are brought to the hospital, the administration of which jointly with the Red Cross has implemented a program of an efficient treatment course that lasts 9 months.
According to statistics 270 were cured of the illness in Armenia. Presently there are 200 beds in the hospital and only 44 of them are occupied. To note, Armenian young people are not inclined to fall ill with tuberculoses while in the whole world the disease is progressing.
Armen Yengoyan, who was brought to Yerevan from Vanadzor in rather grave health state said, «I received complete treatment under the supervision of the International Red Cross. The cure course consisted of two phases but it was so efficient that I completely recovered during the initial 6 months.
The cured patients are conveyed to the colony and those, who have already served their sentence, are discharged.
