PONDERING OVER THE ROBLEM OF «ARMENTEL» AND THE PROVIDERS

The RA Economic Competition Defense Committee discussed in its plenary session the problem of the quality of internet and its availability which according to the providers led to the raise of the prices of the service. The problem was raised by the «Internet Union» NGO.

In its August 8 letter to the Committee the «Internet Union» mentioned, «The quality of internet service by «ArmenTel» is extremely low. It does not provide the informational security of the country and seriously hinder the development of the field of informational technologies».

According to the conditions stipulated in the License N60 «ArmenTel» is supposed to provide internet availability in the whole territory of Armenia. Today «ArmenTel» provides internet by two ways – cable and sputnik.

Discussing the complaint of «Internet Union» and hearing the explanations of «ArmenTel» the Committee decided to separate the two services which were not clearly separated by now and which, according to the providers, was reason for the law quality and high prices of internet.

It is supposed that as a result of this solution in future more people will be able to use internet and thanks to the usage of sputnik connection internet will become available in the regions of the country too.
