PUBLIC OBSERVERS AND THE JUSTICE MINISTRY REFUTED

Social

The announcement of several NGOs about the situation of Razmik Sargsyan was answered by the NGOs themselves. It turn out that the head of the Helsinki Civic Association Vanadzor office Arthur Sakounts was not aware of the announcement and that his name was the first among those who signed the announcement.

Today Arthur Sakounts went to the isolation cell together with the head of the Helsinki Committee Avetik Ishkhanyan and visited Razmik Sargsyan. Avetik Ishkhanyan told “A1+” about the meeting, “We had a private conversation with Razmik who was in the cell meant for prisoners on hunger strike. He told us that since the start of the hunger strike he has always been kept in that cell and there have been no pressures to cease the strike”.

So, the advocates representing the public observers group claim that the information does not correspond to reality.

And the Justice Ministry press secretary Ara Saghatelyan commented, “On August 12 Razmik Sargsyan announced about going on hunger strike. Since then he has been kept in the corresponding cell N5 together with 3 other prisoners who have also made the same decision. He has never been fed forcefully. At present the criminal-executive institution of Noubarashen has no ground to take him to hospital”.

By the way, the Justice Ministry has allowed the journalists to visit Razmik Sargsyan on December 5.
