“INTELLIGENT” MINISTER WANTED

Being concerned about this question, head of Cinema Workers' Union Rouben Gevorkyants noted: “Our culture must be endowed with ideology. One must love his nation and culture and try to present it”. Mr. Gevorkyants marked regretfully that today we are one of those unique nations which accept all the music of the world, including that of our enemies’, and spread it. The reason, in his opinion, is that our culture does not have ideology and we got weaker after the war. “We have two ministries – of culture and of defence – that must act in a similar way defending us. Both ministries must be politicized.
Secretary of the Writers’ Union Davit Mouradyan added that the Secretary of Culture must be a «state producer». «He may not be a cultural worker but he ought to be an intellectual and, what is most important, an «intelligent» man», he said.
Rouben Gevorkyants is sure that there are appropriate candidates for that post, who can contribute to the development and preservation of culture. And does he see himself among these candidates? Mr. Gevorkyants answered modestly: “It’s too much me him to bear. I haven’t gone off my head yet”. And what are men of art going to do not having a corresponding Secretary of Culture? «We'll go to have some beer», Mr. Gevorkyants answered.
