COURT ACTIONS AGAINST “ARMENTEL”

50 more citizens are going to join Iren Sargsyan’s action against “ArmenTel”. These people had to pay up to 360 AMD for one minute of internet connection instead of the established 1 AMD.

«ArmenTel» has either switched off their telephones or threatens to do so demanding the payment of the international connections which according to the people they have never made. The international telephone calls have been to countries like Eastern Timor, Great Britain, Estonia, and Austria. When the consumers tried to find out where they had phones, it turned out that these telephone numbers do not exist.

«It is most probably a provider as it is impossible to call back: the number is closed, without any registered name and surname. As for how the connection takes place, we do not see it on the monitor», on of the victims said.

According to the coordinator of the non-formal coalition defending the rights of the victims of «ArmenTel» Gohar Smbatyan, «The dishonest games of “ArmenTel” threaten us with an international scandal». The point is that a number of students from India have suffered from the “dishonest games” of “ArmenTel”. They are not demanded to pay 1 million AMD.

“ArmenTel” tries to explain away saying that they have warned by means of the Mass Media more than once that a virus exists which can cause international connections irregardless of the will of the consumers. In order to avoid this, the telephone number must be encoded. But according to Gohar Smbatyan, there have been cases when this did not help either.

The NGO “Defense of the Consumers’ Rights” supports the citizens who are going to bring an action against “ArmenTel”.
