THE APPLICATION OF “ARMENTEL” WAS TEMPORARILY TURNED DOWN

The Committee Regulating Public Relations has just turned down the application of “ArmenTel” about raising telephone tariffs. The Committee assessed the economic grounds of «ArmenTel» as non-sufficient.

In this connection executive director of «ArmenTel» Vasilis Fetsis mentioned, «To my mind, this application pack is more balanced than that of last year». At the same time he underlined that last year the application was accepted whereas this year it was rejected.

At the end of the session Vasilis Fetsis voiced hope that they will come to an agreement with the Committee about the tariffs during the next 45 days as the time period is given by the law. Mr. Fetsis made it clear that the company intends to re-balance the tariffs of telecommunication services till the end of 2009 in order to free the field from their monopoly. «It is the aim of the country and not an aim in itself for 'ArmenTel'», he said.

Before that, the company wants to raise the tariffs until they equal the cost price as according to them, today «ArmenTel» sells some of their services cheaper than they cost.
