WHAT DID KOCHARIAN TELL SEFILYAN'S FRIENDS?

Social

“The court disgraces our national emblem and flag. If the Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan were impartial, the case would already have been dismissed,” Colonel Zhirayr Sefilyan, the Commander of the Shushi special regiment, announced at First Instance Court of Kentron and Nork-Marash Communities.

To the judge’s remark to turn to the court by saying “Reverend Court” Sefilyan said “It is beyond me. I cannot do anything under false pretence. I have just learnt that you heard Poghos Poghosyan’s case and released the real murderer. I won’t give testimony to a biased court. Even if you sentence us to seven-year imprisonment we shall not surrender, we shall stick to our principles and belief.”

Today Zhirayr Sefilyan refused to bear testimony. Nevertheless, he revealed interesting details. He announced that the action brought against him is groundless from legal viewpoint. “Two days after my arrest one of my friends applied to Robert Kocharian to find out the main reason of detention. Kocharyan said, “There are not guilty of anything. They will be set free after the elections.”

Later on the very Kocharian gave the following answer to my aquaintance, “We possess data that they are planning something after the elections. They will stand trial. Afterwards I shall exile them. I have got the impression that Sefilyan feels well in the isolation cell.”

I feel pity for Robert Kocharian and Serge Sargsyan as their mentality is on a poor level,” said Zhirayr Sefilyan.

Sefilyan is convinced that his arrest has political motivations.

In 1991 Armenian really had statehood. Our high-rank officials were concerned over the Armenian people. In 1999 the country appeared in a deadlock. Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Vazgen Sargsyan made attempts to prevent the country’s further collapse. They even followed their proponents’ advice. But the collapse was inevitable. And when Kocharyan became president in 2003, statehood was but a sweet memory. Two people stand in power and they only care for preserving their chairs.

During today’s trial Sefilyan’s advocate Vahe Grigoryan asked the court to present the reasons for Sefilyan’s persecution.

Judge Martirosyan declined to answer the advocate’s questions.
