Some Yerevan citizens will heat their homes with wood as they used to do 10 years ago. Lorries loaded with wood in Yerevan streets prove that wood is also used for heating houses just as gas and energy.

“A small pack of wood costs 500 drams, bigger ones cost 1000 drams. The wood is mainly brought from Karabakh and Kapan. Everything is done one legal basis. I pay 5000 drams for the place”, said 73-year-old man who did not mention his name.

Hrant, who sells wood in Yerevan streets says that the customers order the kind of wood they want and they provide them with wood once a week from Karabakh.

All wood sellers ensure that they have allowance for selling wood. Press secretary of the RA Ministry of Environmental Protection Artsrun Pepanyan informed that they had registered 545 cases of violations during the current years. They were all fined for 6,6 million drams. “We always hold check-ins in the regions, including Ararat and Lori”, said Pepanyan.

Rubik Petrosyan, chief wood keeper of “Armenian wood” informed “A1+” that “they cut woods legally in Kapan and Goris. If the cutting is legal consequently, the sale is also implemented on legal basis. We intend to sell 57000 cubic meter wood this years, another 10-11 cubic meter wood have fallen in the result of wild wind”.
