The 18th round of the Armenian Football Championship was held without major surprises. Ararat won over Gyumri’s Shirak 2:1. The match was held in a tense atmosphere. The first goal was scored by Shirak’s footballer Garnik Sarkissian at the 19th minute. The hosts’ triumph was short-lived as nine minutes later Ararat’s striker Marcos Pizzeli equaled the score.

The second decisive goal was kicked by Ararat’s half-back Karen Navoyan at the 88th minute.

Presently, Ararat heads the fixture list with 39 points, followed by Pyunik with 37 points.

The teams are going on a short holiday.

Note, the 2010 World Cup qualifiers are due on September 6 and 10.
