TSARUKYAN WON BY A UNANIMOUS VOTE
Support A1+!Gagik Tsarukyan was reelected president of the Armenian Olympic Committee by a unanimous vote by members of the Supreme Assembly of the AOC with mandates. Tsarukyan was the only candidate for the position.
The Armenian Olympic Committee vice-presidents were also reelected. Razmik Stepanyan will still hold his position as first vice-president, while Vahram Arakelyan, Ogsen Mirzoyan and Derenik Gabrielyan will continue to hold the three vice-president posts.
Assembly participants rested for a couple of hours, after which they went to the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet to participate in the event dedicated to the award-winning players of the Olympic Games.
The event started late and the hall was half-empty. The guests watched a 40-minute film dedicated to the most important events of the past 4 years in Armenian sports. The film included the appraisal of the chess team, but it remained unclear as to what the grosmeisters had to do with the Olympic Games. The film included ongoing speeches on the progress of Armenian sports and the number of medals. However, Armenia has not had Olympic champions for 12 years and the last time representatives of Armenia won gold medals was in 2002 during the world freestyle wrestling championship.
As for the 2008 Olympic Games, Armenia won 6 bronze medals and was placed at 79th on the team scale. Weightlifters Gevorg Davtyan, Tigran Martirosyan, Tigran V.Martirosyan, wrestlers Yuri Patrikev, Roman Amoyan, as well as boxer Hrachya Javakhyan were the athletes that reached success during the games.
