Leading Armenian chess players Levon Aronyan and Vladimir Hakobyan faced off in the 2nd round of the FIDE Gran-Prix tournament taking place in Nalchik.

A tied game was foreseen in the Armenian chess players' match. Bookmakers accepting bets before the match also thought so, but Aronyan won Vladimir Hakobyan and celebrated his 2nd victory in a row.

In the first round, Levon won Azeri Shakiryar Mammedyarov and currently heads the board with two points. Alexander Grishchuk and Piotr Svidler won 1.5 points respectively. Svidler won one of the favorites Vasili Ivanchuk in this round.

All the matches between Elyanov-Grishchuk, Kamski-Bakro, Kasimjanov-Karyak, Leko-Mammedyarov and Gelfand-Alexeyev in the 2nd round were tied.
