The World Health Organization informs that the spread of the swine flu pandemic may lead to the death of nearly 7 million people.
"Zvartnots" and "Shirak" airports are under sanitary quarantine control to prevent the flu to enter Armenia, told "A1+" expert of the epidemiology department of the state hygienic and anti-epidemic inspectorate of the RA Ministry of Health Gayane Sahakyan. According to her, an operative working group was formed in airports following the alarm regarding the first cases of the swine flu in the US and Mexico. Sahakyan says that all flights coming from countries facing danger of the pandemic have been specified.
Thanks to that, the transit plane lands in Armenia's airport, after which the sanitary group conducts a check-up of passengers on board at the border point.
"We have not come across any person with the flu and have not noticed any swine flu symptoms. If we do, we will get rid of them on the spot," told "A1+" Gayane Sahakyan adding that Armenia has all necessary medicine to fight the swine flu.
Press speaker for the RA Civil Aviation Department Nelly Cherchinyan told "A1+" that the health department of the "Zvartnots" airport has informed that there is a sanitary quarantine station at the airport, but according to Cherchinyan, no steps are being taken until there is no command from the Health Ministry.
The RA Agriculture Ministry has already banned meat imports from foreign countries and pandemic control has increased on the roads.
Let us mention that 103 people have died from the flu in Mexico and 1614 people are diagnosed with the flu in different hospitals around the country. Another twenty people in the U.S. and six in Canada have contracted the disease, while a man in San Paolo, Brazil was transferred to the hospital after showing symptoms of the swine flu.
