The northern rope-way will be open next year in Armenia.

The 5.7 kilometer long rope-way will connect the Halidzor village of the Syunik region with the Tatev monastery complex. The rope-way will be open year-round and will transport 25 passengers with 10-minute intervals. In addition, a hotel will be built in Halidzor and the Tatev monastery complex will be renovated.

The 20 million dollar "Rebirth and Reconstruction of Tatev" that launched in February is implemented by funding from the Armenian National Competitiveness Foundation and the 6.8 million euro rope-way construction is being implemented by the Swiss "Garaventa" LTD.

The rope-way construction will end in September 2010 and the entire complex will start working in three years.

"This is the longest rope-way in the world and it corresponds to European security standards," said Executive Director of the Armenian National Competitiveness Foundation Bekor Papazyan.

In fact, the world's largest rope-way is in Laplandia and it stretches 13.163 kilometers.
