Cold watermelons under the scorching sun
There are piles of watermelons at every step of the way in different districts of Yerevan, especially in the 1st to 9th areas of the Nor Nork district. The watermelons are either on the ground or the asphalt right under the scorching sun.
Some vendors say that the products they bring are sold throughout the day and they sell fresh melons and watermelons the next day. "Clever" sellers confessed that they bring a lot of products for one day and sell the old products to unknown buyers. They need additional money to rent a truck every day.
"Watermelon sales are the most profitable, judging from the number of sellers," say the vendors. The vendors say that they pay taxes through the police officers, but did not mention a specific amount.
Most citizens like this kind of trade. Some say that this helps them save time, while others prefer to shop in stores due to unhygienic conditions on the streets.
"Everyone is selling watermelons. Who would buy watermelons from people who are dressed in dirty clothes with dirty hands?" says housewife Gayane Tumanyan.
Hakob Sargsyan thinks that there is no need to be mad because the vendors are able to earn some money for their family during the current crisis.
Let us mention that vendors put a sign reading "cold watermelon" on the watermelons placed under the sun.
