Armenian national football team celebrated its first victory over its Belgian counterpart by the score 2:1.

The qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup between Belgium and Armenia has concluded with Armenia's victory over Belgium - 2-1. It was also the first victory for the team's new coach Vartan Minasyan.

The first goal was made by Armenian forward Hovhannes Goharyan at the 23rd minute of the first match and the second by Sarkis Hovsepyan at the 50th minute of the second half-time.

The goals made Belgians activate and start counterattacks.

Belgium footballer Daniel van Buyten pulled one back for Belgium in second-half stoppage time but it was not enough to prevent their eventual defeat.

Following his team's embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Armenia, Belgian coach Franky Vercauteren said their rivals displayed a worthy game showing them the desire to win which his footballers lacked."Armenian team earned this victory. This match will serve as a lesson to our team," he said.

"The Armenian national team has great potential. I note significant changes in the team's abilities. The boys play with devotion and determination to win. Everyone knows that only hard work can crown success," said the head coach of the Armenian team Vartan Minasyan.

The most striking was the fans' celebration of the victory in Yerevan streets. They held a spontaneous match singing and drumming and sharing their excitement with random passers-by.
