On March 19, 2010, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) law defense organization posted a statement about fair trials in Armenia on its website. The statement is signed on behalf of the Civil Society Institute, Helsinki Committee of Armenia, Helsinki Citizen's Assembly Vanadzor office, Collaboration for Democracy and Foundation against Violation of the Law.

Director of the Helsinki Citizen's Assembly Vanadzor office Artur Sakunts said today he does not agree with one of the formulations in the statement.

"The statement touches upon the events of March 1-2, 2008, stating that 10 people were killed and 200 received injuries as a result of the clashes. By this statement, the HCA Vanadzor Office announces that it not only disagrees with the formulation, but, as stated in several announcements, citizens were murdered due to the illegal application of force on the part of the regime," announced Artur Sakunts.

According to him, the HCA Vanadzor Office had not received the text of the statement until its release, does not agree with the formulation stated in the text and is taking back its signature due to the above mentioned reasons.

Artur Sakunts denied the statement made by president of the Civil Society Institute Arman Danielyan according to which Sakunts had said that his organization was joining the document regardless of whether "his suggestions would be accepted or not."
