Construction works of Catholicos seat are delayed
It is still unknown whether the All-Armenian Catholicos will have a seat in Yerevan or not.
St. Anna Church is planned to be built near St. Katoghike Church, at the intersection of Sayat-Nova and Abovyan streets. The building of the Language Institute stood on the site by 2007.
"Last summer the Armenian Patriarch sanctified the area and we have been looking forward to the church erection ever since. The project is already drawn up but I don't know why the construction is postponed," priest of St. Katoghike Ter Avetis Danielyan told A1+.
St. Katoghike was overcrowded during our visit. The candle seller said the number of visitors rapidly increased after the demolition of the Language Institute.
"I have heard that the government wanted to erect a new church in the nehgbourhood. And now they want to tear down the summer hall of Moscow Cinema. Instead of building one they plan to erect another," said Terevan citizen Zvart Simonyan.
St. Anna Church will be built by architect Hrach Poghosyan and financial support of Hrayr and Anna Hovnanyan.
We were informed from Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin that the construction works will start as soon as Yerevan City Hall sets it going.
